Lima

“I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.”
― William Shakespeare

Lima is one of those cities I would willingly waste my time in. I remember arriving and first thing I noticed was it was dry and cool. This is a city in the tropics and we were visiting during the summer, so I was shocked. The city is beautiful and dense with a population topping 9 million.

I wish we could have stayed longer than we did. As it was the end of our trip, we were tired from the Macchu Picchu hike. We spent our time walking around Mira Flores admiring the city. We stopped and had some ceviche which was new to me. The seafood (sometimes a variety) is soaked in lime juice and the acid “cooks” the raw meat. I was afraid my wife, who isn’t a seafood kind of person, would not like  seafood in a cup. She was a good sport and tried it out, but I do not think she enjoyed it as much as I did!

We headed to the beach to catch some rays. It almost seemed as if the roads just dropped off. Much of the coast is lined with steep cliffs into the water. We could not find a single sandy beach. Everything is rocks, not pebbles, or gravel… huge fist sized rocks. They were not the best to rest on but at this point we didn’t care. The water was freezing cold, but how can you pass up on a chance to go swimming?

Eventually I would love to go back and spend more time in the city. There were numerous casinos and a vibrant nightlife that I hope to experience next time.
